The Story of an Arabian Mare and of the Arabian Breed It is the story about a man and his horse. Hans-Joachim Nagel - an authority in breeding horses and lifestock - dedicated his life and his passion to the Egyptian Arabian horse. And his heart belonged to his foundation mare, the bay oriental beauty Hanan (Alaa El Din x Mona, Inshass). He saw her in Egypt in 1967, and instantly knew that this little filly would change his life completely. He bought Hanan and brought her over to Germany.
But some "experts" questioned Hanans purity. Because German breeders were not familiar with Hanans pedigree - she traced back to a mare, who was a gift to King Fuad - some suspected that she would be a "breeding catasthrophe" and not a dependable breeding animal. But 15 years later her son Jamil (Jamilll) was a "U.S. National Top Ten Stallion"...
Today Hanans sons and daughters are the cornerstones of European, American, Australian and Middle Eastern breeding programmes. And here the interesting questions begin to arise: What is the connection between an Arabian horse and its pedigree? What is the horses genetic images? Is there something like a "pure" Arabian? Who is the "creator" of the Arabian horse - men or nature? Are there similarities between the horse and other "desert creatures"? Read this book and you will get some pretty interesting anwers! And Dr. Nagel knows what he is talking about. He is breeding and owning Egyptian Arabians for over thirty years. He has been president of the German Arabian Horse Society for seventeen years and serves as WAHOs vice-president since 1994. |
