Kaisoon

The course of Kaisoon's life begins in Egypt in the year of 1958. His parents were famous horses. It’s not necessary to introduce his sire Nazeer; without him the recent Egyptian breeding program would hardly be conceivable.

His dam, Bint Kateefa (by Sid Abouhom) is a typical representative of the Rodania line out of the Kuhaylan Rodan strain. Above all, those are lean horses with long lines and a big frame. Their heads are rather long, seldom dish-nosed, and they have long only little "turned in" ears. Altogether their expression is not lovely like that of the Dahman horses for instance but rather "hard" and "original".

They have indeed a characteristic hardiness and energy . Besides, this family often shows the chestnut color of the foundation mare Rodania .

Even though Kaisoon would have been the preferred sire for the El Zahraa stud, these breeding plans were destroyed by politics. The grey Kaisoon came to Germany as a diplomatic gift. What was to be done with the noble stallion? There are special rules for such a present. In spite of the fact that quite a few private breeders would have liked to host this beautiful creature the decision was made to give it to a "neutral place", the Duisburg Zoo.There he headed up a small breeding program, taught children to ride, and was generally out of the public eye.

But at the licensing the committee made a fair decision: they accepted Kaisoon with no "ifs" or "buts"! He had a long, well set neck and a light poll, a good top-line, straight legs and productive movements. All this outweighs his not ideal shoulder and the fact that he was a little "downhill" i.e. higher in the back than in the front. But everybody agreed: this was a stallion with perfect type and superb expression. Thanks to his dam line and in contrast to his half brothers Hadban Enzahi and Ghazal, he produced chestnut and bay get too. Pigmentation problems showed only at an old age.

In 1966 he was used for serving the first time (he was eight years old!) and German breeders had chosen him as "the most beautiful Arabian stallion". After Ghazal had suffered a deadly accident in 1972 and Hadban Enazhi had died in 1975, Kaisoon suddenly was in the spot-light as being the last son of Nazeer.

Soon he became the most frequently used Arabian stallion in German and probably in European breeding programs. Kaisoon sired an offspring of around five hundred horses (not only purebred Arabians). He could not totally improve typeless mares. But breeders with noble mares were satisfied, no matter if their mares were of Egyptian or Polish blood or a mixture out of several lines. He passed on to his offspring his long lines and springy movements as well as a lively character.

Some Sons of Kaisoon

The famous Maymoon (x Maymoonah by Hadban Enzahi x Malikah by Ghazal) was Kaisoon's most influential son. The grey stallion, bred by Dr. Filsinger, united all three "German" sons of Nazeer. Not only that he was extremely typey, he was a paragon of energy and hardiness too. Maymoon embodied the wiry type of the Saklawi. He died young: Frightened by a low-level flying jet, he panicked and broke his leg. He only was eleven years old.

Hakeel Ibn Kaysoon (Kaisoon x Hania)

His half brother Hakeel Ibn Kaysoon (Kaisoon x Hania by Tuhotmos), born in 1979 can look back on a long life and his vitality still is unbroken. With his typey offspring he plays an important role in the breeding program of his owner, Heiner Buschfort.

The Thierer family choose Kaisoon as exclusive "fiancé" for their mares Moneera (by Alaa El Din) and Salha (by Sameh). For many years two Kaisoon sons were standing at their stud: Moneer (x Moneera) and Shareef (x Salha) who especially proved to be a good endurance horse.

El Karnak (Kaisoon x Om El Arab)

With the mare Om el Arab (by Alaa el Din), Kaisoon produced three very beautiful sons: Bakil, Chalil and El Karnak. Bakil gave a good account on the race track, was licensed (and awarded a prize) and left Germany in the direction of USA. The likewise licensed stallions Chalil and El Karnak are serving in Belgium and Germany respectively.

Amir Mahabb (Kaisoon x Morasha)

One of the last Kaisoon sons – and in addition one of the most beautiful – is Amir Mahabb. A stallion with marvellous big eyes. According to "centimeter" he is not the biggest one yet due to his proud and charming ways nobody notices. His dam is the typey Morasha (Anchor Hill Halim x Mofeedah). Amir Mahabb's owner, Susanne Fritz, ventured an incest breeding with the two horses. The "product" was Amira Mailah Bint Morasha, a small but typeful mare, who was shown at the Asil Cup 1997 where she won the Reserve Junior Championship.

Some Daughters of Kaisoon

Jaszirah (Kaisoon x Jeszikah)

The most successful and influential daughter is the chestnut mare Jaszirah (Kaisoon x Jeszikah by Wisznu), born in 1974. She established the fame of Walter Koch's "Saalegrund" stud, one of "the" studfarms in Europe. Jaszirah is the dam of numerous European- and National-Champions like Jassrah and Jarikah (to name but just a few).

Nazeerah (Kaisoon x Nadia)

In 1971 Carl-Heinz Doemken not only imported the Morafic-daughter Afifa, he also took home the grey mare Nadia (Amlan-Eman x Foze). This mare could have been improved in type and Kaisoon did this wonder. Today his daughters Nazeerah and Naadiyah are the "pearls" of the Doemken stud.

Another exceptional mare is El Kantara (Kaisoon x Diedje). The flea bitten beauty – a well known show-winner herself – produced the stallion licensing's Champion Amun El Kantar (by Anchor Hill Halim) as well as some outstanding daughters. Her granddaughter Amun Kareemah is considered to be one of the most beautiful daughters of Gharib.

Amun Kareemah - one of Kaisoon´s most beautiful granddaughters

Dr. Olms of the "Hamasa Stud" intensively used Kaisoon and was rewarded with some noble daughters. Among them Hamasa Kahila (x Shar Zarqa) endowed with wonderful movements. Among her 15 foals are three licended stallions.

Nafteta (Kaisoon x Moneera)

But on top all the other mares is Nafteta (Kaisoon x Moneera), bred by the Thierer family. Nafteta is known for her fabulous beauty and genetic power as well.

Actually the combination of Moneera and Kaisoon is known for daughters that are true to type like Malinche, Manaya and Moniet. Probably the constant quality of this combination is based on two points: first, Moneera is a daughter of Alaa el Din (Nazeer x Kateefa) closely related to Kaisoon. Secondly, the two horses were similar in phenotype.

The next generation - Moneera Siptah (Moneef x Shaheera by Kaisoon)

Even at old age Kaisoon made it very clear to "his" visitors whom they were dealing with. You could still see his temperament in his sparkling eyes which let people forget about his aged body. A special charisma seemed to surround him. Kaisoon was a stallion you simply must have seen. The International Show at Aachen in 1983 was Kaisoons last public appearance. He was shown hors concours and the audience got carried away and drew thunderous applause. An eyewitness remembers: "He looked somehow plain in his box. He was already an old horse. Yet in the open he cut out all the other stallions with his movements. Suddenly there was an excitement, a tension in the horse from the nostril to the hind hoof. He was all nobility, grace and elegance. Kaisoon wasn't made up or shaved but was shown in his natural shape. And he was fully aware of his beauty".

At September 22, 1987 Kaisoon couldn't get up without help. The director of the Zoo decided to put him to sleep. With Kaisoon probably the most prominent animal of a Zoo had died.
