This time the German Nationals reminded me of a Regional show or a C show. The classes were extremely small and the visitors - as always in the last years - comprised solely of the horse owners and their staff. It was like a gathering of old friends: a charming and friendly affair but hardly a competitive one.

Many a German breeder thinks it is time to discuss a new location for the National show because Neustadt is a town difficult to reach for most people. A place in the middle of Germany could be a good alternative to attract more breeders and visitors.

On the positive side, many performance classes were offered and the quality of the halter champions was surprisingly good - some of them already had won significant show accomplishments, others looked as if they have the potential to add major show titles in the future. However, let me ask a provocative question: What is a National title worth when barely 70 horses competed...

Wie immer erinnerte das National-Championat auch dieses Mal an eine Regionalschau. Extrem kleine Klassen, wenige Zuschauer. Es war ein freundschaftliches Miteinander, aber kein ernsthafter Wettbewerb.

Viele deutsche Züchter denken mittlerweile laut darüber nach, ob ein Standortwechsel die Schau neu beleben könnte. Ein etwas zentralerer Austragungsort wäre eine Überlegung wert und könnte helfen, die National-Schau bei Publikum und Züchtern wieder attraktiver zu machen.

Positiv fiel das breite Angebot an Reitklassen auf (mit hervorragenden Darbietungen) und die hohe Qualität der Champions - einige von ihnen haben bereits Schausiege errungen, von den Jüngeren haben etliche das Potenzial für weitere Erfolge. Angesichts der weniger als siebzig Pferde, die am Start waren, drängt sich jedoch eine provokante Frage auf: Was ist ein "National"-Titel wert, wenn er praktisch unter Ausschluss der Konkurrenz errungen wird...
