In the fall of 2010 a brilliant and animated young, upcoming colt named Deffiance arrived at Lyday Farms in Texas to stand at stud for the 2011 breeding season.

Deffiance (Laheeb x Almona Moniet) is a straight Egyptian, Al Khamsa stallion. He descends from the elite Saqlawi Jedraniah mare Moniet El Nefous. Deffiance’s dam line was introduced into the US by Pyramid Society founder Douglas Marshall of Gleannloch Farms, when he imported *Hoyeda from the Egyptian Agricultural Society in 1965. Mr. Marshall eventually sold *Hoyeda to Jarrell Mc Cracken of the famed Bentwood Farms. Bentwood took the dam line two generations further to produce AK Alhana, Deffiance’s maternal great-granddam.

Laheeb (Laheeb IASB in the US studbook), sire of Deffiance, has been a great success in the show ring. Prior to this year’s Israeli National Show, Laheeb was already a three time National Champion Stallion of Israel. Laheeb returned to the ring again in October 2010 and claimed a fourth Israeli National Champion title: Gold Champion Stallion. In addition to being a remarkable show horse himself, Laheeb has set new standards as one of the most successful straight Egyptian show horse sires of the decade. Laheeb sired the 2010 Israeli National Bronze Champion Stallion. Other sons and daughters have claimed a plethora of notable titles including US Egyptian Event Supreme Champion Stallion, World Champion Mare, World Champion Stallion, All-Nations Cup Champion Mare, Namibian National Champion Stallion, and Polish National Champion Stallion!

Like his sire Laheeb, Deffiance quickly comes alive in front of an audience. He delighted the crowd at Lyday Farm’s fall 2010 open house with his ability to interact with people and show off. Simultaneously, Deffiance is good-natured, quiet in the stall, and easy to handle.

Deffiance is on lease to Lyday Farms from Raymond Mazzei's Furioso Bloodstock of California. Before leaving for Texas earlier this year, Deffiance had already settled five mares, all due in 2011. Lyday enthusiastically looks forward to seeing Deffiance’s future foals out of their exceptional band of broodmares.
