Oliver,

I will email Caryn Rogosky (she has been sick with pneumonia BTW), as she knew Fabo and bred one of her mares to him to get the black stallion, WK Fabos Finale (out of the *Fahker El Din daughter, Akira Zarif)

Caryn said the following about the horse in another discussion:
QUOTE
I use strain information when making my breeding choices...however, while I keep the relative strength of MTDNA in mind, I generally think of a horse within the context of the strain which his phenotype most vividly exhibits. An example of this, within my own breeding, is WK Fabos Finale (Fabo X Akira Zarif). Fabo was a pure Babson Saqlawi Jedran stallion, Akira Zarif is a *Fakher El Din daughter out of Masada Bellesabah...a Dahman Najib. While WK Fabos Finale is a Dahman tail female, he is classic Saqlawi in type to my eye, with a dash of Dahman thrown in for good measure. Indeed, this is what his pedigree would suggest, despite the tail female information. However, we can't forget that genetics are very specific and one cannot make sound strain-based decisions based only on reading a pedigree. You have to know the horses themselves. Full siblings can express completely different strains, and usually reproduce the same way...it all depends on what specific genes they have each inherited from their ancestors. A horse cannot reproduce what has not been transferred to him/her. Akira Zarif is very classic Dahman in phenotype, while her full sister Sabbah Din (who I also owned and bred from) was almost classic Saqlawi in phenotype. Even when bred to the same stallions each of these two full sisters produced more like the strains they, themselves, most strongly reflected.

Coralie smile.gif Do you know Amelie Blackwell? She took some really nice pictures of this horse when she visited a few years ago. She posted them once in this forum and I tried to find them but maybe they were in the old forum?

Anyway, Caryn Rogosky does not own the horse anymore...he is owned by someone else and you can go to their website to get more information:

smile.gif Sorry Coralie, had no idea that you and Amelie are friends. smile.gif

There are a couple of people who post in this forum, who would know the horse FABO...Kimberli Nelson, the "hadban lady" used to work for Walter Schimanski. Also, Jay Gormley from Oregon and maybe, Marilyn Lang (the "Bukra lady" from Texas).

Here is some Fabo (Fabah [*Fadl x *Bint Bint Sabbah] x Misimma [Fa Serr {*Fadl) x Fay Khedena {Saqlawiyah tail female to the rare appearing *Bint Serra} for you to enjoy...someone correct me if I am wrong about this but I believe that Fabo was the last living straight Babson Egyptian stallion with the tail female to *Bint Serra and I also believe that the last living straight Babson Egyptian mare with the tail female to *Bint Serra was AK Bint Serra. What makes Fabo really unique is his dam, Misimma, who was pure-in-the-strain Saqlawi, as Fa Serr was a *Bint Serra son and Fay Khedena was a great-grandaughter of *Bint Serra. I sure love these Babson Horses smile.gif

This is Fabo's dam, Misimma smile.gif the mare that I was saying was pure-in-the-strain Saqlawi, which I don't believe exists anymore in straight Babson Egyptian breeding

Tracey Tromp wrote an article about the mare, Daal Aba, a foundation mare at Walter Schimanski's Masada Arabians...somewhere around page 5 of the article, Tracey talks about how Walter purchased Fabo...

QUOTE
“Misimma was the real reason Walter pursued Fabo.  She was truly wonderful,” recalls Don Austin.

It's a good article, full of interesting information. You can find it right HERE

And finally, Bruce and Diana Johnson of Arizona, USA breed straight Babson Egyptian Arabian Horses and have a tribute page to Fabo on their web site

FABO

QUOTE
Fabo sired a total of 81 foals from 1966 to 1992.  Fabo sired Legion of Merit winners Fa-Lodi+ (x Fa-Ramahra by Fabah) and Fa-Rambo+ (x Wildwood Ramahra).

Some people say that Fabo (ten feet tall and bullet-proof tongue.gif )was about 16 hands (163 cm), when he was all snort and blow smile.gif but I seem to remember that he was not very tall...maybe 14.3 hands at the most (approx 147-149 cm). He sure had a lot of charisma. smile.gif

Whatever he was, I loved Fabo. Thanks for sharing that great pic of him with the late Walter Schminaski.

Susan:

While looking for photos of Fabo...I came across a son of his: Kamal Ibn Fabo...who is out of the Babson mare, Serr Beth. This mare Serr Beth was sired by Ibn Fa Serr, the same stallion that sired Serr Maariner smile.gif
