I know *Mehanna was an athletic chestnut son of Galal and Mouna, and I believe he won some licensing competition in Europe somewhere, with a record that stood for five years.

I would like to know more personal observations of this horse. Did anyone here on the forum ever see *Mehanna in the flesh or have occasion to know more about him?

He seems like a very good horse. He lived in several different countries, so I'm hoping someone out there has knowledge of him.

Thanks,

Nancy P.

Hi Nancy,

It's funny you ask that because I have the same question. I saw two pictures of him in the Asil Araber book II and love his body.
My scanner is broken but I'm sure those pictures are on the web already.
Are there descendants in the US?

Christine

I saw Mehanna in the mid eighties at the former Dobel Arabian Horse Stud of the Poths in the black forest. I have a quite good memory of Mehanna, as he was a very impressing and harmonic individual. In short: very refined, bright light chestnut colour, exceptionally high legged, beautiful high set upright and long neck, one of the most exotic heads of that time, eyes sufficiently big but not huge, relatively short ears (very unlike the donkey ears of his dam), long but nicely dished face. I remember one or two foals at the stud that weren't as good as their sire and knew his bay son Masir (out of Bint Shahbaa) at Aulbachs in Kleve, who also was a beautiful and correct stallion, though not as refined and exotic as his sire. IMO Mehanna did not reproduce his own quality and did not prove to be a sire as good as his half-brother Ibn Galal/Magdi, whom he was intended to replace ...

Thank you so much, Dr. Wigger - exactly the kind of info I was seeking! And thanks to you, Christian, for the lovely photos. He was quite a handsome stallion.

Yes, Christine, I have a granddaughter of *Mehanna, which is why I asked. smile.gif She is grey, and she is very smooth bodied with a short, typey head, tiny little ears, and big, dark eyes. She also has beautiful, extreme motion! I hope to have photos to show soon. I don't know if there are others in the States or not...will have to check on that.

Thanks much!

Nancy P.

Oh this is great. I'd love to see picture of your mare Nancy.
Are there any videos of him? How did he move?

Christine, I haven't seen a video of him, but would love to see video myself - and hear more about him.

I will try to put up pics of my mare in a few days.

Thanks, Amanda and AnneDk! Medingen was the win I had read about - I read that he set a record that year that lasted until 1980. smile.gif

Does anyone know how tall *Mehanna was?

Thanks for all this info and the photos - I appreciate it!

Who is that riding Mehanna on the photo all the way to the right? I think it is someone I know, but I'm not sure - but if the dates are right - I think I do know who that is... anyone care to confirm who the rider is?

Mehanna;
the description of Dr.Wigger is exactly like he has been. Character excellent, unbeatable under saddle, very dry stallion.
Let me add, I wish to offer him the mares we have today, probably he would have done a much better job as a stud.
In any case, he was a really memorable stallion.

Thanks so much, Willi. I am very excited and proud to have a *Mehanna granddaughter, tail female to Hemmat.

The first two things that caught my eye about my mare were her trot and her type - both excellent. I look forward to breeding her. I will also post photos of her as soon as I can get some!

Yesterday, I did a search of *Mehanna offspring in the States, and there were several, though most of them have passed on. I will be interested to find out how many of those offspring reproduced here.

Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to post with information and photos. I love hearing about the "real" horse! smile.gif

Best regards,

Nancy P.

Oh Sum Yah - she's beautiful! I love her exotic face! I had wondered about this earlier, but now I'm convinced that the *Mehanna daughters were very good producers!! Who is the sire of your mare?

Yes, I would love to keep in touch and will send you photos of my girl as soon as I can get them. smile.gif Where are you in Germany? I was born in Stuttgart and lived in Heilbronn! biggrin.gif

My mare's dam, *Bint Baheia, was imported from Austria.

Small world made even smaller by the love of the Arabian horse. wink.gif

Best regards,

Nancy P.
