Can someone please update me on where I can have a SCID test done, the cost and what sample is needed?

I know this has been discussed before but it was a while ago and I have lost the details and they may have changed anyway by now.

Thanks

Barbara

Hi Barbara

I can't recall if you are located in the USA or the UK, however, please click on the link below for more information as to where you can obtain this test in the USA. And if you are in the UK, perhaps you can send this company an email and hopefully they can direct you to someone in your country to assist. wink.gif

Cheers,
Carol

$99.00USD

click here to go to order form

This is much cheaper than vetgen test.

If someone also has information on a German lab that does this I think it was cheaper than this.

Thanks very much, I am in England and I think there is a lab in Holland or Germany that tests for SCIDS, I am sure someone will be able to give me the details. There isn't a lab in England who can do it; the Animal Health Trust used to but there was a problem with licences or sometheing so they no longer do it.

Again, thank you for your help.

Barbara, we have just sent hair samples to this place... www.vhlgenetics.com

You can download the form for Scid online, and just label and send a hair sample. We have just done two.
I think it is about £30.

Genecontrol in DE does it for some €22, seems a lot cheaper than in the US. Hair is needed, with the root cells attached to them. It should be kept dry. Blood will also do, but I think hair is much easier. Just pull some 50 hairs or so from the lower part of the manes, near the withers, in the direction of the head.

Barbara,

I have just received an e.mail from genecontrol and unfortunately they cannot do the tests for people in the UK - something about licences sad.gif

We used laboklin, but sent blood, in the past but would like to know where we could send hair samples to in Europe in the future.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I also used Laboklin, costs were about € 50,- with transport and they needed a Heparin blood sample. But they told me they can't do it for private persons, only when a Vet orders it...

Today I got the result from my two arabs being tested in Belgium at www.vhlgenetics.com
Both horses are clear smile.gif I sent hair samples in seperate sealed bags from the UK, and the cost was 136,47 euros for the two. It took two weeks for them to do the test.
