I am looking at a young stallion for purchase. He is a superb individual...however.....he has extreme tail carriage. He carries his tail up like a broom stick handle any time he's being handled. It's fabulous to look at but it looks just like a horse that has been gingered.

What I am concerned about is showing. I have talked with people who have been scored low or not used because the judge thinks the horse has been gingered....when in fact the horses has never been touched with ginger.

Do you show a horse such as this and expect to have to fight every placing? Is it possible to have the vet write a letter verifying that this is how the individual is and then submit it with the show paperwork for each show? Would the judge even see that paper if you did?

Any advice?

This practice is abhorrent!
In Australia, with the ginger testing kit being available, I thought it had abated. As the test is done via the anus, I know of some very well known high flyers!!!! that administer it in the vulva!! I have seen it being heated and scrubbed on with a toohbrush to make it more effective, and on mentioning my disgust was told to mind my own business!! Have also reported it to the stewards, but nothing was done!!!
There are very well known top breeders doing this, you would be surprised!
Some people will resort to anything just to get a ribbon, it rates right up there with cruelty and abuse. ph34r.gif
