Although I am happy to see the Arabian community rallying around to help, I cannot help but wonder why someone should have so many horses.... The current economic climate has not happened overnight, therefore why are people still breeding so many horses? I fear that this will not be the last case of neglect we hear/read about. And this was a case of neglect no matter what anybody says. I have a 30 year old who is fat as butter - old age is no excuse for lack of condition. He needs more care than the younger ones, and therefore if I had a number of oldies there wouldnt be time to look after and train the youngsters. Therefore if you are kindhearted enough to keep your oldsters (as Marsha seemed to be, but not everyone is unfortunately) then surely you should think twice about bringing new lives into the world.
May this be a wake up call to those of you who breed, breed, breed no matter how the market is.
