Natascha
This question goes to all who are familiar with past American programs like Hansi, "An American breeder" or Cynthia Culbertson (who said in another post she visited Glorieta Ranch in her youth).

In the pedigree database I came across the photo of Ansata Abu Nazeer and he was owned by Glorieta Farm. He looks good to me as many of the horses whose pedigrees contain the name Glorieta. I don't know anything about this program, their mares and stallions, how long they stayed in the business, their successes, their bloodlines etc etc. Any information or photo is appreciated.

I don't know much about Glorieta themselves but I do own one of the mares they bred. her name is Glorieta Dalima, sired by Ansata Abu Nazeer and out of Anchor Hill Hamla.
I love her, she is a beauty and a wonderful producer. Her foals are wonderful, typey, sweet and correct.
Here are a few photos of them.

Thanks for the photos. They are all lovely.

Any photos of Glorieta Zaarina and Glorieta Zaafira, both by Ansata Abu Nazeer out of Anchor Hill Hamla?

Thanks in advance.
Kaely
Hi,

Here is Glorieta Zaarina (photo unknown)

You can see a photo of Glorieta Zaafira here. I didn't post it because it is quite big.

Both these photos are from an excellant article on the Sheykh Obeyd Hadban Enzahi. See it here.

And finally, this is their dam Anchor Hill Hamla (photo: Johnny Johnston)

Anchor Hill Hamla (photo above from the PEDIGREE section) was one of Glorieta's foundation mares.
From their stallions I only know Ansata Reza Shah and Ansata Abu Nazeer but only the latter went on
to become a significant sire. Abu Nazeer's daughters bred by Glorieta became foundation horses
for many studfarms, even in Qatar you'll find one of his daughters. Abu Nazeer himself was
beautiful beyond words. He was small but stood tall as a man. A wonderful horse.
Kaely
Hi,

Here is another Glorieta mare

This is Glorieta Maarqesa - by Ansata Abu Nazeer and from AK Monaroufa (Nagat ~ Abla damline). She is owned by Al Shaqab Stud in Qatar. They also own her beautiful daughter Imperial Jaliisah (by Royal Jalliel).

Kaely,

The following "Here is Glorieta Zaarina (photo unknown)". This looks like Scott Trees signature.

To everyone else, I am loving these photos. Beautiful arabians for sure. I have to say that another Glorieta horse that comes to mind, and who is equally as beautiful is Glorieta Gazaal.

Hi Journey,

I thought it was Scott Trees signature too, but I wasn't quite sure.

Yes, Glorieta Gazaal is very beautiful. I think he resembles his sire Ansata Abu Nazeer a lot. Unfortunately I can't find a decent photo of Gazaal to post.

Ansata Abu Nazeer, is one of my favorites. He was just a beautiful arabian in and out!! He sired amazing arabians too! Loving all images of this illustrous stallion.

Polly Knoll gave me a little booklet which featured Glorieta Gazaal. Here is a photo of him with her comments.

Removed photo since so many posted the same pic. Don't want to take up too much room on the website.

Hello Natascha! You have mentioned one of my favorite breedings programs and also one of my favorite stallions of all time in Ansata Abu Nazeer.I have based much of my program over the years off the offspring of Abu Nazeer and his son,Glorieta Gazaal.I think two years ago I had more Gazaal offspring than anyone in the world with 4 of them.I love these lines and I will always have them in our herd.Glorieta Ranch produced some wonderful horses and I think their ideas and foresight were before their time.Their breeding program was very sucessful in my opinion and I wish I had more of the horses that they bred.Crossing the Babson and Anchor Hill horses with the Ansata lines to me was brilliant.... biggrin.gif
I have reposted the photo of Gazaal that some of our other wonderful forum members posted-this one may be a bit clearer and I will post some additional photos that Javan took of Gazaal for his owner Dr Jody Cruz.I hope you find them enjoyable and I would love to share more of Gazaal's offspring with you if you wish to see them.Gazaal is still breeding and has been leased by Marty Ryals of Ryalswood Arabians from Doctor Cruz and I know that Marty just loves the stallion and I know he has been a huge part of my life and I have been blessed to know him and he will always have a part of my heart and soul.... biggrin.gif

Here is one of the Javan shots I promised of Gazaal-I hope you like it! biggrin.gif

Dear Natascha,

Glorieta Ranch was a very influential farm in the late 70's and early 80's and based their program primarily on Ansata bloodlines. Just as Judi Forbis used a Babson dam line to create her "Nile" line, Mike and Kiki Case of Glorieta also frequently used a Babson damline crossed with the Nazeer lines of the Forbises. Ansata Abu Nazeer was a small, but extremely balanced stallion, and although he had few offspring, they have been very influential -- particularly his daughters. I visited the farm regularly from 1979 through the early 1980's so remember most of their original stock, including those pictured on this thread. In general I would say that this farm had an influence far beyond its modest size. In my photo archives I have so many photos of Glorieta horses and foals, but unlike our friend Bart, I haven't scanned them yet! Something to do in the future.

Glorieta Sayonaara, a foundation mare for Silver Maple Farm, also comes to mind as yet another wonderful Glorieta-bred mare. I saw Glorieta Marquesa as a foal, yearling, and two-year old, and then did not see her again until she was a mature mare in Qatar, and she is a marvelous mare as well. In general, the Glorieta horses were typy and balanced and had the strength of pedigree to ensure they were uniformly good producers. I am thankful to have Glorieta Gashahla (Ansata Shah Zaman x Glorieta Gambolia) (photo attached) who is a half-sister to Glorieta Gazaal, and I also had the Ansata Abu Nazeer daughter, El Miladi Anisah, at one time, who produced a fabulous filly for me by my *Morafic son -- interestingly, this filly (now a mare) reminds me very much of Ansata Abu Nazeer himself.

In closing, Mike and Kiki Case did a great job with their small herd of horses -- they were excellent breeders whose influence will live on, I am sure, for many years to come.

Best Regards,

Cynthia Culbertson

Thank you Cynthia for the information provided and for
the beautiful photo of your mare.
She looks very good.

Attached please find a photo taken at the 1983 Egyptian Event
by Polly Knoll. It shows Kiki Case and her filly Glorieta Saafrana
(Ansata Abu Nazeer x Ansata Sabiha) who exactly represents
the bloodlines Cynthia was referring to: Ansata Abu Nazeer
crossed with a mare of Babson foundation (Ansata Sabiha
was by Ansata Ibn Halima x Sabrah by Fabah x Serrasab).
Interesting note: Kiki Case showed Glorieta Saafrana herself -
and she won the very competitive yearling filly class.
A true horsewoman.

I have been away for a bit, and I came back to some wonderful discussions on the Glorieta Horses. It was such a treat.

Any information available for Glorieta Serima (*Ansata Ibn Halima x Glorieta Shahlima)

Or for her dam Glorieta Shahlima (Ansata Shah Zaman x Ansata Sabiha) ?

Photos would be wonderful smile.gif

In the mid 80s we took care of (leased) the stallion Glorieta Monhalim (*Ansata Ibn Halima X AK Monaroufa (same dam as above)). He was a wonderful horse...floating movement, gentle disposition, rare pedigree (Ansata/Bentwood/Babson, as above), and some of the best legs and feet I have seen. I agree that the Cases owned and produced some terrific Arabians.

Thought you might like to see a photo of glorieta Gazaal taken a few months ago by Diana Johnson. Gazaal is a very young 26 in the photo.
