Came across a picture of an interesting stallion.

I doubt it many of today's SE breeders know this stallion. Like Aswan a state gift from Egypt. A very, very influencial stallion in France in the eighties with 200 offspring, died in 1994 - several of his sons made it to the haras nationaux (state stallion depots)

Thanks for putting this topic on! I've always wanted to do it but thought not a lot of breeders would know him and... (as you said so rightly).
But even if this stallion passed away several years ago, it is always interesting to know new ones, no?

If anybody can share with us a photo of him (or of a son/filly)... it'd be much appreciated.
I've met some years ago a son of him (SE) who was just brilliant! or anyway, that's how I remember him.

Fawzan did very well in producing endurance horses.

Teri... I really don't knwo if i'm right or.. but there are many horses called Fawzan, including some famous ones. And as said above, this aforesaid stallion stood at a french national stud... There is a very famoius Fawzan in US (I know as I always came across him when I was looking for FAWZAN info...).

I think this stallion (even if well known and "influencial" in France) hasn't got the recognition he deserved! he hasn't got the opportunity to express his quality out of our French frontiers..
But I don't know very well his history and so, i can't really judge.

I'm curious to see if any of you knows him? Some french or belgian people on board who could tell us some Fawzan's stories?

I have seen some outstanding products years ago including a few SE's, by Nichem (Mechanna) out of Fawzan daughters or by Fawzan out of Nichem daughters - can't remember - maybe both as they were both liverchestnut as grey.

this is a really interesting topic. I never saw Fazwan and just saw one son of him At Jean Kayser's farm in Luxembourg many years ago. I don't remember his anme, could be he was called "Ibn Fazwan" but don't know it for sure. Anyway, this stallion was extremely lovely and - best of all - made a real great riding horse for his owner. He was very intelligent and brave - and interestingly enough very protective. He was a grey; not tall but very balanced with a smooth body and a pleasant head though not extreme of course.

Fawzan was a gift of giscard d'Estaing to Pompadour.

Fawzan was rather small if I remember well, 1m48 or so but a very, very demanded stallion - fees at the Haras Nationaux are or were at least very cheap at the time - I think his fee for pure breds was something of 200 to 300 € (maximum) and obviously not prestigious enough for the showbreeders at the time but together with Negus II he was recognised to be the leading sire for all-rounders at the time. He was used in Pompadour mainly on the French lines but were at the time in the south of France mainly pure bred Arabians coming from countries as Tunesia and Morocco (Breek & cie), so in France lots of crosses Fawsan x Tunesian blood.

I mailed you privately about the picture you should try to get at Pompadour, must be the greatest picture ever made of a straight egyptian in France - or if somebody still has a copy of the pocketguide "Guide du pur-sang Arabe en France" somewhere between '89-'93, it's in there.

Fawzan (fouzan) (1971) was bred by the EAO and imported by Pompadeur State Stud, France in 1971.
His dam Faurooz (Fayrouz) (1965) raced in Egypt
l/5 (1-2-2) and her sire Alaa El din (Goal) 1/6 (1-1-1)3.
These racing genss probably enticed the French to aquire him and breed from him.

He produced the following Straight Egyptians sons:

I always liked this stallion and tried to lease him from Jim,but jim would not let him go. Also he raced in Egypt successfully.

Pompadeur combined the Se blood well with their Arabian lines, many of which were Algerian/tunesian/Morocco- all super atheletes, which helped put the French on the top racing
list country. However, I dont think they raced much or at all against the Turks as yet, and since the Turks appear to be faster yet, it might be interesting to watch the future.
One thing is for sure, the French have been and still are extremely successfull in breeding super horses, one must not overlook.

Came across FAW ASEEL, a straight Egyptian son of Fawzan. Not a bad looking guy, proven endurance horse and offered for sale as well

Came across another Fawzan picture that I have seen never before

Fayrouz (Fayrooz) produced a full sister to Fawzan (Fouzan), named Maather who came to the US in 1973 and prouced 5 Egyptian foals. One of Maather's daughters, AK Amiri Fayrouz (x The Egyptian Prince) was exported to England then to Jordan. I saw Maather as a young mare. Very nice.

Fayrouz also produced the US imports:
Sallama, bay mare (x Seef)
and Senefro, bay stallion (x Emad).

Fayrouz produced a son, Marawan (x Seef) that went to England.

Fayrouz left two daughters in Egypt: Zomorroda (x Ibn Hafiza) who produced 5 foals,
and Bint Fayrouz (x Mourad) who produced 13 foals.

AK Amiri Fayrouz is the grandam of the magnificent MAKNHIFICENT KA.

Fawzan (AHR*69596 bred by Amed Hamza) had 22 progeny. Of the colts, 11 were gelded Falzan BinHafiza (2 fillies before gelded, neither bred on), leaving 2 stallions; Fawzanek (no progeny), TM Sadee (no progeny), WF Amir Ibn Falzan (1 colt not SE no progeny), and Falzan (xFalmona). Lucky for me Falzan bred on because he was bred to my mare Le Kameesha Amira for the 1993 colt Last Chance Too and a 1994 mare Extremely Nice. Extremely Nice's daughter JF Kameerah was bred to Last Chance Too and I have her son JF Amir Ibn Kameerah. Until Amir was born, Last Chance Too was literally the last chance for his sire line and the last stallion from the tail female line as well. Amir has a little brother now(unregistered), but you are all correct in stating that this is an extremely rare line and Fawzan very nearly went out without leaving a trace. I am pretty happy to have Amir who will be bred to Le Kameesha Amira's 2008 daughter Bint Kameesha Amira (by Emir Ibn Farazdac "Himself"). Of Falzan's daughters, only Extremely Nice is AK/SE and has progeny, but of those, only JF Kameerah has SE offspring (the 2 colts). REALLY rare bloodline top and bottom.
