On the AHRA-CD I found the entry, that the great Magidaa increased in 1999. That means, she died at the age of 35 years. I can't believe that. Her last foal she got in 1988.
Can anybody help me?

Most probably 1999 is the year that AHRA was officially informed of her death. You'll find more of this kind when you look at very old SEs. Also at present times people often do not bother to inform their registries of the death of their horses, even though it is required. Therefore, officially, many dead horses keep on living. Administratively that is. Sorry, I have no specifi answer to your question when she really died. And then, perhaps she was indeed 35. I have known a horse of over 40! Not an arab. He was already old, 24 or so, when I got to know him and he died many, many years later.

This date is most likely accurate. When I attended the last Gleannloch auction in 1992, she was talked about as though she were deceased. However, probably about four or five years later we saw her in person at the St. Clair's in Wisconsin. VERY, very thin...but alive.

Good morning everybody

I have a listed as deceased in 1993. But if someone saw her years later, than such date was given wrongly to me.
I saw her last in 1992 in Florida, when she really showed her age.

I knew the mare well. she was in my quarantine in 1968 and was Khofo's first wife, producing Bint Magidaa. I bred her while in my quarantine.

Have a nice day

Dear Hansi, I always read your descriptions of the old horses with great joy. I'm always eager to learn from the oldtimers biggrin.gif
What I like to know from you is how did you decide you want to have *Khofo? And how was his first breeding act with *Magidaa? I can imgaine it was really fun to teach him how to do it? Was he a calm stallion when breeding or a real "man"? And what did you like in *Magidaa and what was her weakness? What did Bint Magidaa inherited from her dam, what from her dad?
This is a lot asking, I know, but it's reall yinteresting to interview one of the experienced ones.
A big hug.

sorry, I only am reading your post now. I had about three show/hunter/jumper strings of Warmbloods (27 head). In 1967 I decided to sell all of them to buy an Asil Arbabian, to continue in stress performances. I bought Khofo++ strictly to become my personal mount, train him to the highest level I can get him.
He was a dream to train and ride. He did very well.

Only reluctantly did Doug Marshall sell me Khofo++ as a 2-year old and I promised to send him back in case anything happens to Morafic and no heirs would be about. Fortunately I was to keep him.

For all the kindness the Marshalls gave to me, I offered a free stud service to any mare of his, while in my Quarantine. Doug decided on Magidaa. This was against the Quarantine rules, but
I took a chance, knowing the mare would go to Texas, far away from my Canadian Farm. So we bred Magidaa and she got in foal produding Bin Magidaa, who became one of the best producing SE mares. Had I not taken this chance, there would have never been A Ruminaja Ali, and his brothers/sisters.

I always rode Khofo++ every day, and before I used him for breeding.
He was a gentleman in breeding. He did everything literally on command, was a most obient companion of mine and looked after me, protected me, when necessary.

When the St Clair's had Magidaa in the 80ties, I offered a free stud fee to Khofo to reproduce possible a full sister to Bint Magidaa. I guess politics got in the way, and it was never taken up. The mare than stood 5 minutes away from our Farm in Citra. And Khofos stud fee then was $ 15,000, and then we closed his book.

Often I think about all this today and how many good breedings are missed by some people, breeding either by fads or whatever.
Even todate a number of high quality oldtimer stallions are around
who would produce execellently with certain mares, I feel.

I still have some here, overlooked by breeders here in the States, yet their offspring in demand, including internationally. Of course, we only breed by natural service.

thanks for asking and have a grand day

Actually, the datasource automatically puts "Presumed Deceased" on all horses once they 'turn' 35...so a. she could have actually lived that long, or b. she died long before and was never reported to AHA. This is common...personally, if the love of my life recently had passed, the last thing I'd be thinking about would be the death report.

No, I KNOW for a fact that Magidaa did not die until the late 90's...as I mentioned, we visited the St. Clair's then and actually saw the mare. This was MAGIDAA, not BINT Magidaa.

Dear Betty

Bint Magdidaa was never owned by the St Clairs. Magidaa foaled in 1964 and I dont remember seeing her after 1993, which put her age at approximately 29. If you feel you have seen her in the late nineties, then she would have been well over 30 years old, which is possible.

My records show "died early 1993". However, I was not present at her demise, so only can take down what I was told, which is not always correct.

Mr St Clair is still alive in Wisconsin and could give us the correct answer.

When I saw her last, indeed she was very thin and at an old aging stage. She was still as sweet as I remember her.

Hansi,

I'm not talking about BINT Magidaa...the mare I saw was MAGIDAA herself. The horse we saw was very old and thin, and the Trapp's (who were with us) said it was indeed Magidaa. The date is the only thing I'm not sure about now that I think about it; I shouldn't have been so definite in my thinking that it was late 90's (that's what old age will do to you!)--it could have been in the mid-90's or late 90's...definitely NOT the early 90's. I remember being a little surprised when we saw her because at the Gleannloch Legacy Sale (1992) Mindi mentioned that Magidaa was deceased--that was obviously not at all true.
