This stallion was mentioned to me so I thought I would do a search for him.
Unfortunately there isnt any worthwhile info on him at all on google or on St E that i can find.
Does anyone have photos or stories about this stallion, he is full brother to El Hadiyyah.
Thanks
Karen

Hello Karensh,
When I went up to purchase a 4 yo daughter of El Majid, Melaka Majiida, August 2006, I spoke with a teenager who had spend alot of time with El Majid and she told me he was a very easy stallion to be around and handle, very sweet tempered, safe for kids. Those last 2 pictures that Carol put up for you were taken when he was 20 or 22 years old, so his back was still quite strong. The daughter I have had 45 days put on her the summer of her 3rd year and was easy to start under saddle. She had a 4 week old filly on the side when I hauled her to VA and she was an excellent mother, tolerated the trip fine. I started her back under saddle March 2007 and within a week was riding her by herself all over the farm and within a few more weeks took her to hunter paces, dressage shows, etc. and she was very well behaved. She is very free out of the shoulder/excellent elbow, has a big trot, very balanced with a good top line and extremely typey -very Halima in her look- people ask me if she's Egyptian when I'm out riding her in crowds.
You can also see more pictures or email Sherry Mose from their website
www.mosearabians.com
BTW, Sherry's other stallion, Hehtif, I think he was the sire of the horse that the teenager I referred to earlier took to state in 4-H and cleaned up in western riding events - of course everyone else was riding quarter horses. We went to the county fair while there to pick up Majiida and watched her ride her Hehtif son in a variety of competitions that day - they were a great pair to watch, working as one.

Because I had owned an Ansata Ibn Sudan son, I have studied both this horse and his full brother for an outcross (or line back, close up) to the good stuff in his pedigree. SF meansSomerset Farms who had him when he was young, and MA means Mose Arabians who owned him for many years until the time of his passing. I have a farm video. I will see if this horse is on there. Am pretty sure he is. You can see the Halima from the Sudan, and the Babson on the bottom of the pedigree. He seemed to have a very strong chestnut gene in there too. Very docile, as they took him to a lot of educational functions for hands on touching and up close looking. Should have great movement and type as you say, from sire and dam.
Marilee
Dear Jacque, Can you post a picture of your mare, and who was her dam? Thanks, I also love horses as you describe..... with that free shoulder, reach, and drive from the rear. My horses have multiple lines to Fadjur below the straight Egyptian on the sire side, and the result is quite like Babson on the bottom: substantial bodies, strong legs, deep hips and elegant powerful movement--almost parallel to the Babson, but it's double and triple Fadjur. Very interesting. Mose Arabians also had for a while Glorieta Monhalim (*Ansata Ibn Halima X AK Monaroufa), who I was keeping track of, as we had him on lease for a year in the 80s. So Sherri for a while had TWO *Ansata Ibn Halima sons. Monte was Halima X Ibn Moniet El Nefous X Babson, so there was the solid body, great legs, and wonderful movement again, plus the type. The photo in the pix section here does not do him justice at all. I will get permission to post another, and I have great liberty video of him. The movement of some of these old bloodlines is quite spectacular, and sometimes hard to replace.
Mike
Here is a photo of my El Majiid daughter taken when she was two, unfortunately I don't have any more recent pictures of her. She does have her sire's wonderful temperament though and a lovely free way of going.

Marilee,
I bought Melaka Majiida to be my riding horse, but when I started studying the pedigree and especially when I saw the pictures of the her dam and her granddam I realized she was a valuable breeding horse, the basic structure of all 3 was the same, great continuity - she's still my riding horse - which she reminded me about last Sunday - I've got to tell you that story.
Hanna's Fanci, my 3yo, went away Jan. 07 getting ready to go to the EE. She was close by so I got her under saddle in February and since she's been home ~ middle June, I've been riding her around the farm and some in the ring.Of course I've been riding Majiida since March and she's been my riding horse. Have had Fanci & Majiida in the same pasture since July. I did in July before the heat wave, take them out individually & work them in the ring and take Majiida on trail rides and leave Fanci in the pasture by herself which I've done since she was very young.
Sunday evening I left Majiida in an enclosed area, where she could see the riding ring while ground working Fanci. Neither of them called to each other or acted anxious, worked about 15 minutes, Majiida did stand watching the whole time. I come back and put Fanci in the nearby pasture & then brought Majiida over to the pasture Fanci's in. When I turned Majiida loose, she turns herself around & does this little rearing & striking out towards me, not close enough that she would have hurt me but definitely trying to get my attention. So I look at her and say "What?", she does it again as she's prancing around me. So I say "Are you jealous and need some attention?" and go to her side and start scratching her withers and generally loving on her and she stands perfectly quiet soaking all of it up. So I spent some time, rubbing and scratching and talking to her giggling most of the time, cracked me up.
Majiida's dam is a Akid Kasim (16h, full brother to Akid Geshan- Nabiel sons) daughter out of an Al Metrabbi daughter out of a Sakr daughter (double Sakr on the 16 line of her pedigree), the tail female is Nabilah, same as TD.
I don't have any pictures that do her justice. What needs improvement would be stronger hock (my criticism of most straights- they wouldn't generally support a jumping career or high level dressage) and although her hips are well designed, she's got the equilateral triangle and short canons so lovely angle from her stifle to her hock for good dressage work, I would like a longer or deeper hip. I like a more upright neck & maybe a bit more length & curve at the poll. Her temperament is fantastic, good, big feet.
I haven't seen Kasim, but Geshan has great dressage type movement & the get that Debra Geiser has from him, have that same great suspension with their trot & reach out of their shoulder. Sakr, of course, had great reach out of his shoulder. I think Majiida's looks come from the Halima/sire side, but I'm wondering if her great shoulder/elbow might have come more from dam side.

Dear Jacque: I've been thinking about your post. Your mare seems to be still young and you are just starting to ride/work her. With time she will fill out in the hip/croup/stifle/gaskin with muscle and with maturity. Some of these bloodlines are very slow to mature. If you see early pictures of Halima, of Sudan, I am sure of the other horses in the bottom of her pedigree, it takes many years and lots of miles of walking, trotting, cantering, conditioning to develop a horse. We did so much in the desert work (mountains too here in Vegas), I would say as in the arena. Long walking rides with interval training and conditioning. So it is a combination of genetics as you say from their ancestors, plus the condition and the age they are when you get them, and how they respond to that conditioning. Have you seen show horses in stalls their whole lives and how they look? Bodies filled out by food (or even steroids), legs that are thin and not muscled up or built up. Mature horses with spindly legs and narrow chests and rears. For what you want (I like that too) will take time and energy into developing that athletic body, barring injury or illness. She also may have some ancestors who are more angular rather than round, so that could be a factor. Her bloodlines are great. I am impressed with the pedigrees of the mares that El Majiid bred. He was a nice horse. I really could see the Ansata Ibn Sudan and the Babson in there. He was masculine, but you could also see the feminine (graceful type) there too.
JacqueB
Hey Marilee,
Majiida's rump definitely started showing conditioning as I rode her. My criticism was with the angle of Majiida's hock. On looking back at all the pictures I have of El Majid, I think the angle of his hock was better than hers - Babsons more often had very good hocks, I don't know specifically about Maarqada. I know Maarqada doesn't have Ibn Fa Serr in her pedigree and I associate that wonderful curve & length at the poll with him. I'm not sure how much he passed that on. She does have Fay-El-Dine as the maternal grandsire, Bint Serra I (Fay-El-Dine's dam) had great muscling over her gaskins and good hocks in the pictures I've seen and very pretty thru the poll, too - really lovely looking mare. I'm sure Majiida's gaskin would have muscled up, too, if I had continued- she's 6 mo pregnant now.
Over at Amethyst Acres there is a stallion - Holsteiner, that has won all sorts of stadium jumping grand prix's in Europe - he's probably 20 or close to it. That's the angle of hock I'm shooting for. I've got a SE mare that has those great angled hocks, but she would be destined for reining, alittle too tied-in at the elbow for great jumping ability.
For my capabilities and really most of the population of riders, Majiida is built to do anything they or I can do. But my sons who will most likely be geldings, I'd really like to head in the direction of top end talent....gotta put that dream out there so it could possibly happen - that has been a successful approach for me so far.
Jacque

We are so proud to own a son of El Majiid. Our stallion, El Rhaqiis DSA (El Majiid x Rhalah), is our pride and joy! We had the pleasure of seeing El Majiid about a month before he passed and he was a very elegant looking horse, very noble and intelligent. From videos I've seen, he was a great mover.

How lucky were you!
Love Ibn Sudan!
Thanks for the stud names as most im not familiar with. I will do some more research. There doesnt seem to be much info on Ansata Jellabia anywhere either, she being the chestnut I am guessing has thrown her genes fairly strongly??
I am loving the photos i am seeing on here so far of him and his progeny!
Thanks Marilee

I think that (A.J.) mare was owned early on by Downing/Somerset in California. I will look at my old Reference Handbooks to see if she is in there as a younger mare. I have seen pics of her dam, and also grandparents on the dam's side. I think they are also in the Royal Arabians of Henry Babson book too. Perhaps current owners of the full brother can help here. The prior owners of full brother were most aware of the pedigree and very helpful, but that horse has changed hands now. He (brother) is awesome as well, a grey. My late horse carried the chestnut there recessively, and some of the early Ansata Ibnn Sudan get that I studied were chestnut as well, depending on the color of the dam. I am pleased to see these very nice El Majiid horses. They are super.

We ownan El Majid son El Rashiid MA. We bought him for Sheri Mose who was liquidating her herd because of medical reasons. He has the best temperment that you could ask for in a stallion. Right now he is in training for Western Pleasure, and is showing so much promise. We are over joyed with him!!!!

Hi again Jaquie (just reading your post on page 1)
What a character your mare sounds, gotta love them!
There must be something in this line for their "airs above ground" antics!!
Ashouri before pregnancy over took her would all of a sudden start leaping and playing around having a ball. Often she would try to entice a few of the older horses to play by doing this!
Or if she didnt think she was getting the attention she deserved in a group of horses she would slowly sneak in behind me avoiding the bossier mares and all of a sudden she was 'there'! at your shoulder just waiting for her pats and cuddles.
They are the beautiful moments arent they.

i just had a look on allbreeds and have seen that A Jellabia had mostly greys, with just 2 chestnut progeny. The other chestnut was Jaliil, by Ansata Shah Zam.
I have only seen one pic of A Jellabia, and that is the head and neck shot that you posted. There must be more about surely?
Yes El Hadiyyah was the reason i have asked about El Majiid. I wanted to see the difference/similarities in progeny etc. Temperaments of progeny def sound the same! El Hadiyyah is still alive isnt he? I think i remember reading something in this forum. Ok thats interesting about A ibn sudan and chestnut progeny.
I agree re progeny, they are gorgeous!!
Very consistent.
Thankyou so much for sharing!!
Much appreciated

what an interesting thread. Turns out the first horse on his progeny Eindafa El Jamal was bred by us. He was out of an Al Metrabbi daughter (Anchor Hill Alana) and he was a beautiful colt. Unfortunately, he was born with a cleft pallet that did not correct itself and had to be put down. What I remember so vividly was how nice Somerset Farms was about the whole thing. A return breeding to Majiid or Bajhat with no questions asked.
I also did see Jellabia in the flesh when the Downings lived in Northern California. Very pretty front ended mare

That is no secret to this group. We all admire both stallions. Who could post the produce of dam of Ansata Jellabia for me? I have the old micros of the AHA records, not the newer CDs, and am really interested in who she was bred to. Thanks. Who could post that early side shot of Ansata Samantha under western saddle? I have seen it years ago in a magazine and got to see her at Ansata in 1985. The Ansata Ibn Sudan daughters (and sons) are/were very special. The cross back to *Ansata Ibn Halima was too. How many crosses back to AIH occurred wthi AIS daughters? I would be interested in that. How many and which Ansata Ibn Sudan daughters and sons are still alive? Mine passed on a few years ago at 27. I have no replacements for him.

I am glad that El Majiid is finally getting some recognition here as a sire. We know that El H. was probably known more, but it seems as if El M. bred some nice mares too. I had the chance YEARS ago to get an El H. daughter from when he was still a young stallion, when I was doing my early research, and we all know how that stallion matured and has produced over the years ! One of the last AIH sons from his last foal crop.

Thanks for all the info here. I don't have the cds, so you are all helping me think through past successes of what worked with what horse.

What a beautiful face on your gelding Billy! As you might know those bloodlines are represented in my new straight foal, with the bonus of simeon stav and el hilal as well!
I would be very grateful if you were able to find more photos, I just love seeing all parts of my horses pedigree and trying to link which has had influence in the current horse.
He seems to have bred quite a few foals, but you dont hear of them a lot which is surprising for how good they seem to be.
Thanks again Billy
Karen

Hi Dennis,
What a shame. Just one of those things that happens unfortunately. Thats good how you as a client was more important than money.
Tell me more about Jellabia, big/small, nature, legs/feet, was her back end not as good as her front? movement?
Thanks
Karen

Hi Billy
No wonder he is gorgeous!!!!!!
What a ped!
got a pic of his sister?

Connie
Thank you, Karen! We do love his exotic coloring! And he is a powerhouse mover, too! I don't know if it's all right to give the website here, but you can find it in my profile. There are a couple of videos on there, one from the Event a couple of years ago.

I always thought he got his movement from his dam, but hearing about all these great moving El Majiid sons and daughters, maybe I was giving too much credit to her!

p.s. I've logged in under my other account, but this is Windfall. ( I wish I knew how to delete one!)

Hi Karen

I remember only seeing her for a short time actually, but she was pretty front ended with a very pleasing head, but her rear end was probematic. Although she did not seem to pass it on. I saw El Hadiyyah and El Majiid up close and personal and bred a mare to EM which shows what I thought of him. I don't remember Jellabia's legs. I do remember her being somewhat of a willowy mare. I don't know what else she produced besides these two stallion. But I believe there was at least one more stallion that the Downings were promoting before they left the business. He was chestnut and a very good moving horse. Hope this is helpful.

wow - from this list there were several that were standouts and did very good in the showring. Halim El Nadir was a gorgeous colt that died too early, but had established a following at an early age.
alla Khazam was another very nice colt that I actually almost purchased (before he was gelded) to be used as a stallion - I thought he was that good.
shah El Shamal was used by the Downings as a breeding stallion and did very well in the showring. El Majid and El Hadiyyah need no further discussion. Jalil was another that was pretty popular in California when the Downings still owned him and then went somewhat into oblibion (ai is not unusual with ownership changes sometimes) but I saw him and can say that he was a very good mover and overall a nice stallion.

Hi,

I thought that I would add a link to a video of my El Majiid daughter taken when as a young foal. It may take a little while to download though (7Mb) rolleyes.gif

Video link

More detective work/research. I thought I saw VP prefix on some of the El M. get. Doesn't the background for this video look like Ron P.'s at Vantage Point? So maybe he was there for a while? If so, that would explain the quality of the video and the soft interaction and reach/stretch/quiet posing for the camera---if Ron was anywhere there. Just a guess.

Arabian Horse Times, December 1997, full page Mose Arabians ad, $1000/$500 stud fee, page 60, Pyramid Report..

Page 88, Sheri Mose says " El Majiid is a full brother to El Hadiyyah and is extreme in type, with a huge eye, fine long neck, super smooth hip and topline. He has a wonderful disposition and is basically unflappable. He is more of a halter and Western type stallion, though moves with excellent impulsion and has sired English winners as well. He perpetuates extreme type, balanced conformation, and sensible disposition, and seems to cross best with heavier boned large mares that need more type."

Dennis-I am intrigued by your thoughts about AJ's rear end. From her pedigree, one would assume she would be strong there from the Babson, and from the Halima too. Did she never develop well over the years, from exercise, or just seemed weak in that area? My Ansata Ibn Sudan son had a huge rear end (he had 3 lines to Fadjur too). PS--I remember now your excellent chestnut stallion who we saw years ago----tell me his name and sire and dam again. He was wonderful.
Marilee
You are awesome. So AJ only had 2 daughters. I wonder if they are still alive to study their look and their rear ends. I love this website. Like going to an Arabian/Egyptian breeders/educators seminar every day for me, for free.
Marilee
Also look at the gap in there of her progeny-from 1987 to 93.
KarenSh
Hi billy
She is actually very ansata ibn halima looking at that age so she promises to be outstanding as she matures! It totally amazes me how these arabians can change so much over the years, yet other breeds dont.
Thanks for posting the pics, you are very lucky!
