Just a wonderful photo of *Monogramm. And his list of champion get? Ooo! Yeah! It's pretty darn impressive!
And boy! can he trot!!!!
One of the best ever English Pleasure classes I had the pleasure of viewing was won by his beautiful almost white son, Concenus (*Monogramm x Opalese (Bandos). Shilo Bishop showed him and they were the picture of what a happy and beautiful-moving English Pleasure horse and rider should look like. He was gorgeous in the bridle--ears forward, alert, animated and she was ecstatic--all smiles and beautifully attired in a lovely maroon day-coat. She road him brilliantly! I can still see the two of them as they made their victory pass! I about fell out of the spectators' stands cheering them!:D
I later wrote her a note of appreciation and congratulations and she was so thrilled I took the time to write to her. I can't wait to visit Bishop Lane and see the two of these gorgeous guys together.
(Wish I had a special mare to breed to *Monogramm!)

He does give me chills...you are "right on" with this comment. I get the chills for the consistency of this sire, on top of his classic beauty. His progeny is consistently exquisite...I wish he were a straight Egyptian horse!

It is very difficult to choose a favorite horse, among the horses that he has sired. Who can choose between *Zagrobla or *Kordelas or Ekstern or....
In another thread, someone made reference to Ansata Halim Shah as a "mutant" for the consistency of the horses he sired. I find it interesting and wonder if there is something more to horses like Monogramm, Ansata Halim Shah, *El Shaklan, Khemosabi, Aswan, Ruminaja Ali...horses that have created dynasties, regardless of the bloodlines that they are mated with.

Thanks Susan!! I'm anxious to see how Elyza grows up, because I'm hoping she will be a competitve halter and western (amateur handler/amateur to ride) horse for me. I just wish she didn't have such a straight profile.
It's very encouraging to see the current horses that are being bred in Poland that have such gorgeous heads, along with beautiful bodies and great movement. I just think they are lovely! That's what I'm aspiring to breed someday, and maybe Elyza crossed with Monogramm would produce it!
I'll just have to start saving my pennies now, so I can hopefully get a breeding to him in the future!!
hrnarbians: Why do you say that Monogramm doesn't cross with *Bask blood? I'm just curious. My filly is a *Bask great-granddaughter, so the relationship is not very close, but I'm still interested. I have a friend who has a Negatraz daughter that was breed to Monopolii (Monogramm's full brother) and that resulted in a fantastic colt who was a Regional Top Five Sweepstakes yearling. He was very English...not a lot of pretty, but boy he sure did have presence! Unfortunately, he died as a two-year-old, so I don't know what he would have turned out to be.
Thanks again!

Lisa,
Historically he doesn't cross the best with *Bask blood. There are exceptions. But the horses that the public adores are not carrying *Bask through the dam line (Concensus is an oddity), the best cross IMO are the "E" line mares. I think there is a thread on awhitehorse.com about *Bask and it goes into detail about Monogramm not meshing. IMO his best foals are born overseas, here we just have too much *Bask to do him justice. It's so disheartening because he's one stallion I continue to look for dtrs by him; because of the bloodlines of my mare.....I aspire one day to have a Monogramm dtr that is his best cross of blood! What the Monogramm sons and dtrs do is another story....I still think they don't do as well with *Bask...but some people have been surprised with their sons and dtrs...JMO A good cross are Bey Shah dtrs, but then, the Bey Shah dtrs cross well with practically everything!

Lisa,
Don't fret about your filly's straight profile. She's lovely in so many areas and you can see her femininity which I love to see in Arabians. I like stallions to be "masculine", bold, and I love to see the feminine refinement in mares and fillies. Just because your filly doesn't have a pronounced dish doesn't mean she won't be competitive in both halter and performance. She's very balanced and has a beautiful, upright neck and nice shoulder angle.
Beautiful heads are one of the easiest physical traits to acquire. Good, solid conformation, balance, smooth coupling, and strong joints and limbs, and good strong feet become more difficult but as equally important to the individual.
*Monogramm consistently passes on his beautiful head, presence, overall good structure, and magnificent, free shoulder movement. His only weakness as I see it is that he could be stronger in the hip and loin area. If he's bred to a big-bodied, strong, powerful-hipped mare, he allows that physical characterstic to come through easily.
It would be very difficult to pick *Monogramm's best son--there are so many. Ekstern, *Kordelas, *Ganges and the list goes on. His daughters? I won't even venture my favorites--too many! Suffice it to say that the Polish breeders are truly astute. They recognized how much *Monogramm could improve their stock. They used him wisely and his impact on European breeding has been enormously significant.
He is certainly a "sire of significance".

I, too, admire *Monogramm, having seen him go Top Ten at the US Nationals years ago, and I love the quality offspring he is siring. I also wanted to say that I have seen Lisa's filly, Elyza, in the flesh, and she IS very lovely, with a large, luminous eye despite her straight profile. In fact, I watched her WIN her first halter class and go Reserve Junior Champion Filly (as a yearling) to a filly that later was a 2003 Egyptian Event Top Three Futurity Filly.
Lisa, I hope you can someday breed Elyza to *Monogramm - wow!

We have bred KORDELAS (Monogram X Kabala by Palas) to our ALGONKWIN (Bask X Alpaga by Celebes) daughters. The results have been super. We specifically purchased Kordelas, a very Seqlawi style stallion, to breed to our Kuhailan mares. I personally don't know whether Monogramm does well with Bask related mares but I can say catagorically that Kordelas does well with Bask related mares.
Here is an example. TA FELLINI (Kordelas X TA Filligree by Algonkwin). He was Reserve Champion Junior Stallion at the Houston All Arabian Show back in September, our first show since returning to the US>

Thanks for replying Amanda! The majority of the Monogramm get that I've seen and loved are ones that have been bred in Europe, but I guess that's because I'm more familiar with them since they've been pictured so much in the World and Times. I'm actually a fan of his 1/2 Arab get too like Candice Bergramm and others. You mentioned the "E" line, and I really like that line of breeding. I have a pure Polish colt out of Etevja, who is out of Etja out of Etiologia out of Etna that I have great hopes for.
Susan...you are just as nice as you can be, and I appreciate your positive comments on Elyza!! If I hadn't had a bug about breeding to Monogramm before, I certainly do now! And, you're right, the Polish breeders really are doing a great job!
Nan...Everytime I get discouraged with the way Elyza's looking...going through some kind of growthy stage...I always have Nancy there saying "just give her time", and that's greatly appreciated too!
Dick...*Kordelas is absolultely beautiful, and you don't know how much I enjoy seeing pictures of him under saddle. I used to be married to a Nationally-decorated reining trainer, and know a little bit (and I mean just a little bit) about how one is suppose to frame up. In the photos I've seen, *Kordelas looks as soft, easy and athletic as they come. He's definitely going to make his mark here in the States!! It's wonderful to know that he is crossing with the *Bask lines, but I'll bet he crosses pretty well with all lines!

Apart from *Kordelas being a "natural" at reining, I think that trainer has "hands of butter." Wow! He makes those slides look so easy!!!
What a talent he is!

Thanks for the nice comments on the December World Ad, we try to present Kordelas as he is... hence the working gear and non polished appearance. I hope it doesn't come across in a way that people think less of him. He is truly beyond our wildest dreams.
I don't ride KORDELAS at the moment. We have his energy channeled on learning reining skills and we don't like to distract him. We have visitors ride him occassionally and Anthony then has to "fix him".... or so he says.
Yes indeed Monogramm did a good job in Poland but he didn't do it on his own!
The best polish broodmares (in Poland) have so much quality and are so strong genetically that any reasonable stallion would be hard pressed not to produce a good foal.
Stallions who are leased to Poland usually produce their "best ever" foals when they cover the polish mares.
Monogramm sired 106 foals when he was in Poland and those who developed into todays stars of the showring are those who most closely resemble their dams.
Three well known Monogramm sons are Ganges, Ekstern and Premier - three stallions who are totally different from each other, its hard to believe they were sired by the same stallion!

I am sorry to say, but I have to agree with the before mentioned comment: The horse received the best possible mares in Poland, bred about 200 of them and how big a percentage has stayed to be a breeding horse in Poland.
How many of these incredible beauties that we have seen in Poland have we seen in the US ?
I think that you are floating on a pink cloud a little bit, many stallions will do an excellent job with this kind of mares
World Top Ten & Internationa

So glad to see Erbil is doing well and that he has developed into a beautiful mature stallion. He was always one of my favorite Monogramm sons - I am glad to see he has found a good home in Brazil where his distinctive qualities can be most appreciated.
As for Monogramm's ability as a sire - I would like to comment on my own personal experience with Monogramm during his tenure at Michalow. He undoubtedly serviced many of the best mares in Poland - the broodmare band at Michalow is unquestionably one of the best in the world. Many of the mares he covered were successful show horses and aristocratic broodmares.
That said, Monogramm stood only two seasons at Michalow and only covered mares owned by that stud as well as a few privately -owned mares. Monogramm did not cover mares at either Janow Podlaski or Bialka. He had a total of 120 registered foals born between 1994 and 1998 (47 in 1994, 56 in 1995, 8 in 1996, 4 in 1997 & 5 in 1998), as the Poles were fortunate to use his frozen semen for three additional breeding seasons. Total number of mares covered: 82. Several mares were covered twice and many of the mares who produced the best foals had three Monogramm foals, including Emanacja, Furora and Zguba.
From those foals, an unprecedented number of international champions have been crowned. Horses such as:
World, European, All Nations Cup, Polish National & Mercedes Cup Champion EKSTERN (undefeated)
World, All Nations Cup & US National Champion ZAGROBLA
European, All Nations Cup & US National Champion KWESTURA
US National & All Nations Reserve and Polish National & International Champion GANGES
World Champion & Polish National Reserve Champion EMMONA
US & Canadian National Champion EL MUNDO
World & Polish National Reserve Champion FALLADA
World Reserve Champion PALMIRA
European Champion & Polish National Reserve Champion ESKALOPKA
World Top Ten & International Champion KORDELAS
World Top Ten & International Reserve Champion PREMIER
World Top Ten & International Reserve Champion ELANDRA
Swedish & Polish National Champion FURIAT
Polish National Champion ERBIL
Polish National Champion EKSCELLA
British National Reserve & International Champion PALASTRINA
Swedish National Reserve Champion ZALOTNA
International Champion EGZONERA
International Champion ZAGORA
Austrian National Champion EMFATYK
Polish Reserve Champion EMPIRYKA
Polish Champion GRACJA-BIS
UK Regional Reserve Champion KRYSTINAH
UK Regional Reserve Champion ESPAKTA
Polish Reserve Champion WALENTYNA
Polish Reserve Champion FAST
Impressive results considering that he covered mares for such a short period of time at only one of the major studs. Several of the other major sires of champions utilized in the Polish breeding program, such as Palas, Bandos, Eukaliptus and Probat, had the opportunity to cover mares over a multitude of years, most standing in at least three of the State Studs (Probat is the exception).
What Monogramm was able to do most consistently in Poland was firmly fix type, marked by particularly exotic heads, add length and cleanliness to the throatlatch, contribute harmony and smoothness to overall silhouette, and most importantly, stamp each of his get with his trademark trot and exhilirating show ring charisma.
Everyone who has ever had the privilege to see mares such as Emigrantka, Emanacja, Emilda or Palestra would concur that these mares represent outstanding phenotype and are exceptional examples of the Arabian mare - yet when crossed with Monogramm, they produced some of their best progeny. I would propose that Emmona and Palmira are considerably better in many ways than their internationally renowned dams, thanks to the characteristics Monogramm consistently contributes. As with the other Monogramm stars, most are unreservedly the very best produce of their distinguished, and in many cases obscure, dams. Premiera, Kabala and Kwesta are all Polish National Junior Champions - yet Premier, Kordelas and Kwestura greatly exceed the virtues of their worthy dams. Fallada is the best foal produced by respected broodmatron Fanaberia - both Eskalopka and Egzonera rank as the best daughters of the aristocrat Polish National Champion Egzotyka. Ganges is vastly superior to his credentialed dam, as is the indomitable Ekstern. Suffice it to say - Monogramm was a brilliant success for an already world-class breeding program.
This should come as no surprise, as Monogramm has an excellent pedigree - a legendary grandsire and highly revered dam - representing many of the finest and most skillfully managed breeding programs in the world. Monogramm is not without faults and he did not always produce great results with a wide variety of mares. I have seen many of these less that outstanding get and the Poles were very aware that he was not ideal mate for the entire herd. No stallion in the history of the breed can claim either perfect conformation or an infallible siring record. What Monogramm was able to accomplish, however, was set a new standard of Arabian excellence for not only Poland, but for the rest of the world. Had he merely sired Kwestura and Zagrobla alone, he would have gone down in history for giving the breed two of its most exquisite specimens.
I encourage anyone who would like to breed to Monogramm to contact me - I will be brutally honest about what he can and cannot offer as a breeding stallion. Not all mares are appropriate for Monogramm: in many cases one of his excellent sons - such as Ganges, Kordelas, Ekstern, Premier, Erbil, Furiat or Concensus - would be a much better choice. The Bishops' have turned down breedings in the past when they believed mares to be an inappropriate cross for Monogramm, and made recommendations for other stallions outside their own breeding program. They have been good stewards to Monogramm, both by allowing him to go to Poland, and by ensuring he has the best breeding opportunities at home in the US.
Rather than argue the merits of Monogramm, let us all be thankful to the people - Director Jaworowski, the Bialoboks, the Pattersons' and the Bishops' - and the generations of breeders before them that allowed all of us to reap the benefits of his exceptional genetics and his extraordinary get.

Another note worthy of mentioning is the quote from Michalow Director Bialobok on the status of the Monogramm daughters as a group within the broodmare band "The best and most numerous broodmares in the stud are the Monogramm daughters, followed by the daughters of Eukaliptus. We can already say that these mares are of a better quality level and more importance than the daughters of Amurath Sahib, Nabor and Comet." High praise indeed when comparing the modern Monogramm daughters with the pillars of Michalow stud, mares such as: Estokada, Eskapada, Estebna and Warmia.

Not MONOGRAMM but we have KORDELAS (Monogramm X Kabala) frozen semen available for shipment from the UK to all EU countries.

There are so many great points that you made, that it is extremely hard to isolate just one. Thank you for all that you said about Monogramm. He is a wonderful, wonderful stallion. A superhorse really and I have always felt, very consistent in the quality of horses that he has sired. There are stallions like Monogramm that become more than their bloodline groups, crossing all borders and winning fans everywhere...horses like Khemosabi, *Raffles, Bay-Abi, *El Shaklan, Nazeer, *Camargue, Aswan, *Morafic, *Ansata Ibn Halima, Fadjur, *Menes, Thee Desperado, Palas, Naborr, Negatiw, Ansata Halim Shah, Ruminaja Ali, Kubinec...are only a few names...incredibly prepotent sires that stamp their get with an unmistakeable look, over a wide variety of mares. I really enjoy this horse, Monogramm and now, I enjoy seeing his get and grand-get take it to the next level.

Ralph - thanks for putting Monogramm into perspective with many of the modern "giants" within the Arabian breed - it is important to appreciate good Arabians for all they represent and contribute - in the end we all are benefactors of great horses utilized wisely by insightful and foreword thinking breeders.
Christine - I was fortunate to be at Michalow for the Monogramm years. I still feel a great sense of pride as I watch his sons and daughters succeed in the show ring and in the breeding barns around the world. Many are personal favorites (for many reasons) and it is always a great thrill to watch them compete and win amongst considerable competition.

Good morning
We don t represent Monogramm anymore as it was very difficult at times to get hold of the owner , but we did get t 98% of the mares in foal .
He is a truly wonderful sire .
All you need is a good vet who would be willing to scan your mare everyfour hours to inseminate her just after ovulation .
Iwish you good luck but if you can t get semen from Monogramm , there is Premier standing at the Maxwells ' he sired some very beautiful foals .
Good luck
Sabine
