Hi All,
I am lucky enough to have been given a birthday present of a trip from Australia to the Arabian Show of my choice overseas (yes, I know!! What an amazing gift!!), so I was looking to find some insights into some of the major shows worldwide from members "in the know" on this forum. I would like to know about the show itself plus what it might have to offer as far as non-ringside spectator value i.e seminars, stud presentations & most certainly shopping

!)
A friend and myself were trying to organize a trip to the EE, I'm not sure if that's still going ahead so therefore my query. I see there has been a lot said about Scottsdale recently, which is an extravaganza I have always wanted to see one day but probably not at the present time.
I have been lucky enough to have visited Europe twice before but not to any horse shows so that is still an option but I haven't been to the States yet & would love to go.
It's such a monumental distance from here to anywhere else

, so if anyone can reccommend any major shows with a few smaller shows nearby around the same time, I would be very grateful for your input! The trip will be next year sometime.
Thanks!!

In Australia, I personally think that the best show is the East Coast show in Sydney usually held in Jan or Feb. I think it's better than their Nationals. The shows usually stop for the winter in May and start again in October. You will love Australia, I've been there over 10 times and it's my favourite country to visit.

If you like the Straight Egyptian arabian, then the Egyptian Event would be my number 1 recommendation. This is an event where you can see a variety of bloodlines and stock from farms all over the world. The USA is a great place to visit too and the Kentucky area is one of my favorites.

I haven't been to shows all over the world, but I do love the Event. As a spectator, it's great because there is so much more going on than just the classes. Seminars, the art auctions, clinics... At this show, it seems expected that people are just going to walk around the stables--the stalls are decorated, people are hanging out, and information is available on many of the horses.
Plus, I think Kentucky is a great place for any horse lover to visit! The Park itself is great, and the racetracks are fun to see even when there are no races going on.
I've heard a lot of good things about Paris, and I keep dreaming of seeing a show in Egypt someday!

The EE and Las Vegas are the only 2 US shows I enjoy. Contact me if you ever think of going to Paris, as I usually have 2 tables there. We often have people from all over the world with us. Last year the VIP seats at my tables were $210 pp for the 3 days.

Here is a sample from Paris. Some horses I had not seen before, I especially liked the polish, with their nice big feet, plain shoes, no pads and great movement. Then the wonderful Baarez and his son Baareg,
The Egyptian Event is something else, really more meeting friends and seeing so many horses, relaxed in their stall, halter, under saddle, or the endurance ride. Wonderful seminars.
It is addictive.
Lots of
barn parties too,
stallion showcase where you can go interact with the horses, pet them, see their disposition... an amazing opportunity to see so many at once.

Liz, do you have "coach class" sections are your tables too?
I dont know what time of year the Egyptian Event in USA is (someone here is sure to know) but if you find yourself in Kentucky in late summer 2010 you will be really lucky as you can also take in the 2010 World Equestrian Games (including the World Endurance Championships with many Arabians of course!) and as an extra treat, visit the amazing new Exhibition planned to open then at the International Museum of the Horse in the Kentucky Horse Park, it is called “A Gift from the Desert – the Art, History, and Culture of the Arabian Horse” and you can read more here:

The EE in Kentucky is the first week in June. The Arabian Sport Horse Nationals are also in Kentucky in late September this year. I meant to add that as one of the shows I enjoy.

I do love the regional and private events the most. It's a very familiar atmosphere and I think the horses feel more comfortable as they mostly show by their owners and/or at their home.
Pictured here is Naborscik with his owner, having fun together at a regional event!

The Arabica would be a good choice for a tourist coming from abroad. It's so close to the airport - exit the plane, grab the luggage, hail a taxi and you're at the showgrounds in less than an hour after disembarking from the plane. And that's with dropping luggage at the hotel.
There are some hotels within easy walking distance of the showgrounds as well.
Then again, we do enjoy our - now annual - trip with a rental car from Frankfurt to Aachen for the All nations cup as well. Arriving early at Frankfurt, take a leisurely drive along the Rhine, maybe making a detour to Wiesbaden for some shopping, stopping by at the sights at e.g. Rüdesheim and visiting a winery or two along the way.
One show I would like to attend this year is the Kauber Platte show in early August. The place is just incredible, with a view over the Rhine valley. Unfortunately I do not think I have the time. It's also pretty close to Frankfurt so the connections would be good. A rental car is still a must, IMO. The drive from the Rhine to the Kauber Platte stud is, well, interesting.
Cheers,

Aachen then I advise you to go to.
The horses are often also going to Paris, the top then. And there is riding too! No western though. Dressage and showjumping. You can maybe visit some breeders too in Germany then.

British Nationals held at the end of July has 5 rings going with performance in dressage, jumping Western, sidesaddle and the ordinary ridden classes. It's the largest European show with about 1000 horses with Purebred and Anglo and Partbred classes.

Hi Liz
Thanks, nice to know. Does "English Pleasure" exist there?

No way, it's all hunt seat and some Western !!! Saddleseat riding is an American style which comes from plantation days. It should not be called English Pleasure as there is nothing English about it except that it is not Western. The only other countries that have a little Saddle seat are Brazil and South Africa. Nothing in Europe, Middle East or Australia.
