Pernille,

I do not think that Alija is an Arabic word.

Well I didn't think so either...

A girl asked me the question, because she would like to name her foal Alija.
She thought it was an arabic name. She has been told that the name means something like. "The little bay", referring to colour.

Could someone please tell me the arabic name for a bay horse.??
The girl would be very pleased to know wink.gif

I used to know what "bay" was in Arabic, but I've forgotten (Ahmar is what I found). I did A TON of searching on the internet for Arabic/Egyptian names when I was getting ready to name my baby.

Try searching Arabic names or Egyptian names and there will be many websites that will tell you the words and translate them into English. Hope that helps a little.

Yes, Princess Alia is very helpful and will definitely know what you are asking.

In my mind is "Samra" for bay, but I'm not so sure, look perhaps here:

If I'm not wrong ASMARA is a female version of "brown". I'm not sure if it can be applied for a bay horse, but at least it sounds nice for a mare..

Hi everyone. Was offline . Alia (and various spellings thereof) does mean high,lofty,etc...not socially in particular. Alija could mean that if the j is pronounced as a y. Bay is Hamra or Ahmar (the latter being masculine). Samra means dark complexioned, usually used for humans or for roasted coffee, not so much for animals. Best wishes, Alia

ALIJA,as far as i know means the feed of horses, and i dont think could be read as ALIAH which is lofty or high in standard or position.samrah for female or asmar for male is what humans with darker complection than fair white are called, and i think you can call a horse which is dark grey that.the little bay is humaireh.
i hope that may help. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Al Ahmar means THE BAY. It is Arabic but sorry, it has already been used by our US Registry. sad.gif

You could spell it Al hamrah -the bay in the feminine...or al ahmar-in the masculine. Best wishes, Alia

the little bay is humaireh.

Is that the feminine form? Humair for the masculine? Or doesn't it work that way? Is it right that the u-ai-ah gives the "little" version? Example: SMR for dark, Asmar forthe masculine, Asmara/Samara for the feminine form, Sumair(ah) for the little dark one?
SWD for black, Aswad masculine, Sawda feminine, Suwaid(ah)? èProbably it is not as simple as that unsure.gif
