The Egyptian Event in Lexington, Kentucky is less than 1 month away. We are getting excited about seeing all the finest horses , renewing friendships, meeting new friends and some Friendly Competition. Who out there is planning to attend? What horses are you bringing?
We will show our filly SE Layla Moniet in the Two Year Old World Class. biggrin.gif

Talaria Farms will attend. We will have most of the aisle made up by the west side of Barn 3 and the east side of Barn 2.

We will take ten horses from Talaria--including three breeding stallions (Botswana, HH Fortune Hunter, and Al Jahim), and seven Botswana offspring ranging in age from two yearlings to a three-year-old mare. Gary McDonald from Scottsdale, Arizona, and Rob Simpson from Cerene Acres in Virginia will join us as we share common interests and have pooled our resources to provide a fun experience for all our clients and friends.

Four other Botswana offspring will show with Gary McDonald, Rob Simpson, Steve Dady, Shawn Crews, and Michael Byatt.

HH Fortune Hunter will be shown in the senior stallion class, amateur to handle, and presented in the stallion showcase. However, Botswana and Al Jahim will only be presented at our barn parties.

Talaria welcomes all visitors--and our old friends--to visit our stalls, have some refreshments, and enjoy our hospitality rooms and tent at any time during the show. We love company!

And we wish the best to all competitors--may your dreams come true in center ring!

I wish I could see Botswana in the flesh. I have heard so many good things about him. Do you have a recent picture to post here?
Nick
Any guess about the outcome of the stallion championships? Does someone know some of the entries? Could be an interesting quiz. biggrin.gif
Allison Mehta
Dear Babs,

I do have a recent photograph (actually a page from an ad which will run in the EE Program)--but I don't know how to post photos on this Forum. If you will send me your personal email (allison@admbuys.com), I will email you the photo.

I also have a recent photo of HH Fortune Hunter which is very beautiful...

Thanks for your interest!

I am going. This will be the first time I've ever attended the Egyptian Event so to say I'm looking forward to it is an understatement! I'm crossing the days off the calendar in anticipation!

My colt Baalheem (Imperial Baarez X ES Prominence) is not quite two yet and is still very "growthy" (he is SO bum high right now) so he will not be attending this year. I'm hoping to take him next year. This year I'll enjoy just spectating.

I've signed up for practically everything! biggrin.gif The barn walkabout, the breakfast and will be attending all the seminars. I have a feeling that I will most likely need a vacation after the Event to recover. rolleyes.gif

Allison, you will have to save me the latest in the Botswana Collection. I have the lion and adore it! They are so cute!

Cheers!

Dear Deb,

Of course I will save you this year's "Botswana Trust Collector Series" animal--it's a black leopard to go with his pages in the program. This year is #5 in the series... How quickly the years pass--it seems like only yesterday Botswana was a leggy yearling, pestering his grandfather, The Minstril, through the stall bars! Now his first daughter has just been bred and another leggy yearling (Afrikan Alkhemi) pesters his dad, Botswana, through similar stall bars!

Do you only have the lion (#2 in the series)? I will see if I can scrounge up #3 (a little jungle animal--monkey, baboon, or parrot) and #4 (three little horses, black, bay, or grey for his foals showing last year). But this year's #5 is really special--with blue glass eyes!

Come by our stalls and visit with us...

Allison,

I agree with you on how time passes. I can't believe when I get back from the Egyptian Event my colt will be two! It seems not that long ago I was at the kitchen table pouring over pedigrees of egyptian stallions....... rolleyes.gif

I cannot tell you how much I am enjoying my boy. I simply cannot imagine life without him now.

Of course I will come by for a visit. I love to dispense pats and scratches and admiring words!

The lion is the only one I have. So I'd simply love it if you scrounged up whatever of the remaining series you have left. We'll do a trade - I'll bring you down my stuffed mascot (it's a secret so I won't say what it is) in exchange for yours!

Cheers!

I have heard Joe Polo will be showing Gatsby CC in the Jr. Stallion class. If he is half as good as he was as a baby the championship should be his this year.

@ Allison

In regard to up-loading photos: Just register yourself and you will find
a field under the text box which reads Durchsuchen...
Click it and search for the picture at your pc. It needs to have an "jpg" ending.
Then click "Add reply". That's it - the photo will show up.

If the pic is already in the net you don't have to be registered to put it in.
Just click the button IMG above the text box and paste the URL of the pic.

Hope this helps.
We are all eager to see Botswana. smile.gif

Okay, I'm going to try this photo thing...but I'm a bit of a dinosaur with cyberspace, and I couldn't find a box entitled "text" (?) so it probably won't work.
Allison of Talaria
OMG!!! It actually worked--and it was so easy. I hope you enjoy the photos--and come by and see him in the flesh at our stalls at the EE.

He looks terrific! What a lovely horse. Doe he has a full-brother in South Africa?
Allison of Talaria
Yes, Thee Cyclone (three times National Champion Stallion of S. Africa) is his full and only brother, as their dam, The Minuet, died two years ago. Thee Cyclone is also one of the stallions used in the Disney movie called The Young Black Stallion.

Botswana is six this year--and the photos are absolutely unretouched. That is his natural coat, no special polishes. He conditions himself by running in his turn-out paddock, which has a hilly terrain--and also swims in our pool once a week. This stallion is a wonderful guy to have in the barn: exceptionally smart, very well mannered, with a slight sense of equine humor, and extremely easy to handle.

We consider ourselves at Talaria very blessed to be part of Botswana's life.

I've added one more photo of him below.

The 4 & 5 year old stallion class should be very interesting. I loved Gatsby as a 2 yr. old but I was recently at Michael Byatt's training barn and saw his 4 yr. old stallion for the Egyptian Event, Richteous by Richter and out of Bint Bint Magidaa (full sister to Ruminaja Ali). This stallion is awesome; beautiful, pure white and should command the ring like his sire. Should be a fun class to watch. Does anyone have a picture of Richteous?
Nancy P
I have seen a video of Richteous and I have seen Gatsby in the flesh - if Joe gets any kind of show at all out of Gatsby, I predict he will win. He is just ALMOST impossible to fault. Of course, Michael is the consummate showman and will certainly have Richteous in tip top condition and get his best show out of him.

I REALLY wanted to like Richteous (love his pedigree). Gatsby, however, is even better (considerably in my opinion) now than he was as a 2 year old.

I'm going now to look for my most recent pics of Gatsby...so far have only found the Scott Trees head shot taken a few months ago. Pretty, but his body and legs are what impressed me - plus his animation in the ring. Of course, I could be a little prejudiced - my mare has been bred to him for 2005.

The stallion classes should be really fun to watch!

The second picture of Botswana silhouetted agaist the sky is incredible. Good luck at the Event, he looks a lovely stallion and a fabulous colour.

The Egyptian Event is over, and we have spent the last week unpacking, cleaning vans, furniture, tack, sheets, and stall decorations.

It was a wonderful Event for Talaria Farms...and we wish to thank all the great folks who came and visited us, our clients, and the talented horse professionals, such as Gary McDonald and Rob Simpson, who helped present the Talaria horses.

We came away with many ribbons, but--better still--a whole group of new friends and wonderful memories!

And I am posting here to bring this thread forward as there is a great shot of Botswana taken at the Event (in the pinned thread on Impressions of The EE) in his "Pharaoh's Chariot Horse" costume which I thought viewers might like to compare with the other Botswana photos presented above.

One small correction--while I did fabricate the chariot horse costume (taken from tomb wall paintings and other depictions of royal chariot horses such as the one on the back of Tuthankhamen's throne chair), I do not own Botswana. He is owned by a group of eight people (plus Talaria Farms hold six shares) called The Botswana Trust...and Botswana is indeed lucky to have such a dedicated ownership group who have supported him since he was ten months old.
