My polish brown gelding has got -just like his mother and all his sisters and brothers- a black spot just on this place. Is that a 'bloody shoulder', too ? And is this inheritable ?
Best wishes

<_< I am not sure, but I remember reading a story/myth about the owner of a bedouin mare who whent to war on his treasured arabian mare.
The owner was heavily wounded in battle and fell unconsious in the sadle. The brave mare, loving her owner dearly , reaslised that he was heavily wounded and fled the scene, safely carrying her wounded owner home. By the time she got back home, her shoulder was heavily stained with the blood of her owner. From then on, some horses decending from this particular mare would display the bloody shoulder mark in remembrance of this brave mare who saved her owner.
It is said that these horses with the bloody shoulder are particularly people orientated. smile.gif

Thank you Jaco,

This is what I was asking for, story's like this.

Marsina.
Thank you, I think I found the answers I needed. My mare does not have a bloody shoulder but does have blood stains (spots) on her shoulder area.

Hi Marga,

I found this picture of Showkayce. He has markings that look like a bloody shoulder I think...wel maybe not really a bloody 'shoulder', more like a bloody 'neck' biggrin.gif

I also have a question...Is the bloody shoulder found on Greys the same as the roan spots found on other purebred arabians ...same gene, to where that would be concidered a type of roan on the greys???

Is Showkayce a Straight Egyptian Arabian? I do not think he is because he is related to Khemosabi, and I thought Khemo was a cross between egyptian and polish...am I incorrect?

Yes you are right. smile.gif
Showkayce is not a straight egyptian. He is by Fame VF and the mare Kay who is by Kaiyoom who is by Khemosabi. From the picures I have seen, he sires wonderful babies and they are very versatile horses who is used for dressage, show jumping and halter.
I am not so sure about the polish lines though. Fame was by Bey Shah who is all American breeding, however, I am unsure about the dam of Kaiyoom?
