Here is a picture of Darrag, from Allbreed:

An American Breeder
Darrag was strong in the characteristics of Tuhotmos. He had that type of head which is not the head cherished today in Arabian breeding. He was not a strong sire for his type but usually incorporated a lot of the mare. The head is longer, narrower, and the eye is not real big. He was crossed with a lot of TheEgyptianPrince daughters.

Around 15 hands, dearly loved by the man from Eugene, Oregon?? think that is where he was from, a decent mover. He was shown English at the Gunzer Egyptian Arabian Symposium in Silverton, Oregon back in the early 80's.

I will probably get internet shot for this but he really had offset cannons. Quite a few of the Tuhotmos horses I saw had that. And just remember all, I have a granddaughter that I love -- and who does not have that trait.

why would you get internet shot for telling the truth? I have a very good friend who was over in Egypt before Tuhotmus was exported and she told me after seeing him she knew why he was being exported. She said he had the worst legs she ever saw. But his head was so gorgeous no one would look at his legs. He would have fit in right with some of these up to date modern straights. Kay

Here is another picture of *Darrag.

I did see Ibn El Darrag a few years ago and he didn't have offset canons.
Never saw Darrag himself, norTuhotmos.

Well, since *Darrag was with me for the breeding season of 1989 & gave me 3 daughters (Er) from 3 mares bred biggrin.gif let me add my impressions dry.gif
*Darrag was a BIG horse. I grew up training TBs for the track so I know BIG dry.gif
*Darrag was just under (maybe 1/4" or less) 16 hands. A lot of horse to walk beside when he puffed up to talk to the ladies. Fortunately "Dar" had a puppy dog disposition & his children were GOLD. His one daugter in less than 30 days under saddle could be ridden bareback at all gaits with only a "prayer rope" (a string around her neck). rolleyes.gif
I will agree that Dars head was not the extreme type like *Tuts, but you would never mistake him for anything but Arab. The tail female is thru Yaskmak, same as *Rashad ... In fact the double *Rashad son I had & Dar shared many of the same strong points. Great size with tons of athletic ability, they could really "get under" themselves & drive. ohmy.gif Super feet & great legs.------LIZ-----I'm looking to see if I have any head on shots of Dar, but & can assure you that he DID NOT have off-set cannons. Dar had a very nice strong hip, short back with excellent withers. 2 of his daughters were a little longer in the back (which is really OK for a broodie) but had his wonderful withers. The outher daughter was VERY compact with an astoundingly deep heartgirth.
By todays standard ph34r.gif his neck could possibly be a little longer but it was well set on & he could bridle over just fine rolleyes.gif
As soon as my wokr schedule permits I'll look for some snap shots taken here & get them scanned & posted.
I still have one daughter here & maybe one of these days Christine & get some fancy photos of her. rolleyes.gif

I wish I had a sE Dar daughter (or 2 or 3) for El Musaffir cool.gif

Sorry, Chiron. Maybe in his older age he grew -- he was only in the 15 hand range and his owner was sitting beside me and agreed, when he was shown at the Gunzer SE Symposium. I remember him well as a friend and I were critiqueing the stallions as they were shown, and this man leaned over to us and said, My horse is next. Please be kind to him. Ohh? And who is that? Darrag. You never forget those conversations!

And also sorry, remember I use the blood extensively, I have it close up in two of my mares, those were offset cannons and his owner knew that fact too.

Yes, it is too bad he did not have more purebred get. Used correctly and wisely he had valued blood to incorporate. One of his other sons was Ansata El Wazir??? Betty Nottley's daughter rode him in the Rose Parade in Portland with only a neck rope, in full native costume attire.
Chiron
*Ansata el Wazir is by *Tut out of a Sameh (I think) daughter. So by the same sire, not sired by *Darrag. Are you sure you are remembering the right horse. I far as I know Dar was only shown Western. He had the ability to trot big but, like his daughters was a bit on the overly relaxed side (lazy laugh.gif )
Calicoarabs (Sandy Cleland) also had hands on Darrag & can also assure you he was WAAAAY over 15 hands. dry.gif Sandy also comes from a solid horse training backround, not just an "arab" person.
It'll be a couple of days til I can get to the pix. See what I can find. cool.gif

P.S. I'm 5'10" in tennis shoes (my footware of choice) so that makes "eye level"
for me at 65" or 16:1 hands. Soooo,.,,gauging heigth is a lot easier for me than it is for a shorter person dry.gif

So pull off the shoes, the pads and trim the feet - maybe we're closer to 15, eh? laugh.gif laugh.gif

Yes, ma'am!!

Anyway, I wanna hear what you all think about the two horses - Pharrah and Darrag.

Never having seen Pharrah in person. I just can't comment. I did see 2 of her sons by different stallions & they were not the type I was/am looking for (OMG I just dangled a preposition tongue.gif ) laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
I will say this: one of the WORST set of legs I ever saw in a show ring was on a young *Tut son. mad.gif
I think Darrag took ALOT from the dam's side. The size & strong bodiy coming thru from Yashmak. Also the flat, but dry type of head. smile.gif
